Have you found yourself hitting the mall to get your shopping done more? You’re not alone, as the top 10 malls in Canada this year were just booming. And here we were thinking that the mall died a long time ago. Turns out, it’s just been hibernating!

The report comes from the Retail Council of Canada, which based its rankings on annual sales per square foot at each mall. So, it’s not surprising that Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto comes out on top at a whopping $1964 per square foot. Not so bad! But if they crack $2k in 2020, they’ll be the first in Canada to do so.

Calgary only had one spot make the list, with CF Chinook Centre nabbing the 6th spot. However, we would like to point out the 5 of the top 10 malls in Canada are owned by Cadillac Fairview. So, it’s safe to say they’re the ones leading the charge.

What’s the deal with the mall’s resurrection? Basically, the corporate growth that emerged in the 80s and 90s with stores like Zellers is gone. Instead, it’s being replaced by curated brands, better food courts, and a renewed devotion to entertainment and leisure activities.
