It’s considered the passageway for travellers exploring the Kawartha Lakes and a great stop to explore the Kawartha Trans Canada Trail.
Seasonal residents and retirement communities in the surrounding area support the town’s economy. “These individuals are down-to-earth with country traditions who enjoy old-fashioned pursuits like gardening, boating, and swimming,” shares the site.
“Their deep roots in the land make them uniquely connected to the region and supportive of local businesses, both new and old.”

Canadian singer
Per the town, it is the early childhood home of Canadian artist Neil Young. It is also the inspiration for his song “Helpless”.
There’s a lovely mural in the town that is dedicated to the artist.
It serves as a pretty cool photoshoot spot if you’re a fan of the singer.
Famous bridge
Young isn’t the only famous mention in this town. It’s also home to the popular Doube’s Trestle Bridge which is beloved amongst locals.
According to Maryboro Lodge Museum, Doube’s Trestle became a local landmark after it was converted into a hiking trail following its abandonment.
It is now one of the most popular lookouts in the Kawartha Lakes, per the site.
But unfortunately, it closed due to fire damage. “An engineering firm has been secured to assess the fire damage to the bridge to determine the extent of the structural damage and repair requirements,” shared Kawartha Trans Canada Trail.
Despite that unfortunate event, there’s still lots to do in Omemee and the surrounding area so do yourself a favour and explore its options!
