The oldest bowling alley in Canada is found in a small Ontario town

Did you know that the oldest bowling alley in Canada is located in Ontario? That’s right, it’s in Arnprior, Ont., a small yet charming town known for its welcoming community and historical features.

Next stop: Arnprior, Ont.

This lovely town is about a 40-minute drive away from Ottawa. If you’re coming from Toronto, it’s about a four-hour drive east.

Whether you want to visit Canada’s capital or explore Arnprior’s local stores, restaurants, and historical buildings, you can do all that on a day trip.

According to the town itself, its newly renovated historic downtown is not one to miss.

You’ll find a fascinating array of unique shops, cafes and restaurants here. Grab a quick bite at the Sweet & Sassy Café and Bistro or grab a hot cup of joe at Cafe Tilda.

Some caffeine will be needed to keep you trekking along the downtown area. Stop by Jada & Laney Boutique for some fabulous fashion finds and Audrey’s Fashions for Canadian-made designs.

It’s the perfect town if you’re looking to support local businesses, find a new outfit, or even enjoy a bite or two.

Though that may be enough to entice a trip out of you, this next part will seal the deal.

The oldest bowling alley in Canada

Arnprior is also home to the oldest bowling alley in Canada. Steelheads & Strikes is truly a piece of Canadian history. It was built in 1930 and has been preserved as a five-point bowling alley.

When word that the alley was at risk of redevelopment, Alicia and Matthew Ott stepped in to keep the alley alive.

“We proudly host Special Olympics athletes every week, welcome seniors and children’s leagues, and provide a space where friends and families can gather, compete, and create lasting memories,” the owners share on their website.

“With its nostalgic charm, rich history, and deep community ties, Steelheads & Strikes is more than just a place to bowl — it’s a place to belong.”

If you have the opportunity to visit the small town this year, you’re in for a treat.

Do yourself a favour and plan that trip. As warmer weather approaches, you’ll definitely want to explore our beautiful province. We know we will!
