This hidden gem park in Ontario has an observation tower & floating boardwalks

Explore one of Ontario’s natural beauties through floating boardwalks and atop an observation tower. Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre could easily be described as a hidden gem and the natural surroundings are enough to take your breath away.

About an hour and a half north of Toronto is where you’ll find Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre.

This nature preserve sits on 3,000 acres of provincially significant wetlands and woodlands in the heart of Georgian Bay.

It is open nearly every single day of the year, with activities for visitors of all ages to enjoy in every season. But it is especially beautiful in the summer.

According to its official site, these wetlands are home to a number of diverse species, including listed species such as Blanding’s Turtles and Trumpeter Swans.

“The Captive Wildlife Care department at Wye Marsh hosts 12 birds of prey, 6 turtles, and 2 snakes who cannot be released into the wild and require specialized care,” shares the site.

“Species monitoring, developing pollinator friendly spaces, and invasive species control are among the stewardship initiatives undertaken by Wye Marsh staff and volunteers.”

If you’re ready to explore, there are 25 km of trails including several upgraded boardwalks that float above the marsh.

There are four boardwalks in total here, and the longest of them is 500 feet.

And for a truly wonderful sight, there are observation areas and a lookout tower.

And if you’d like a more in-depth experience, you can visit the wildflower garden and the bee house, or sign up for one of the many educational workshops offered on-site.

Now who’s ready for a boardwalk adventure?
