Another major retailer is exiting the north. Nordstrom Canada has announced that it will close all of its stores nationwide, including Nordstrom Rack outlet stores.

“While we’ve enjoyed serving you since 2014, and have built and have a fantastic team in Canada, we’re writing to share that we’ve made the tough decision to wind down our operations in Canada, close our 13 Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack stores and sunset Nordstrom.ca,” says a new statement on their website.

The statement goes on to say that the online store is no longer shoppable in Canada. Returns and exchanges will no longer be honoured as of March 17th, 2023.

On the bright side, it looks like Canadians will get to take advantage of a liquidation sale before Nordstrom Canada closes for good.

The company said in their statement that it “intends to commence a liquidation sale,” later in March.

However,  the decision is subject to Court approval. We’re crossing our fingers!

Based in Seattle, Nordstrom currently has 2,500 employees and 13 stores in total, including Nordstrom Rack locations.

Sadly for those who clock into work every morning or frequent the luxury chain or, these closures will be complete by June of 2023.

“We want to thank our team for their performance and dedication in serving customers in Canada. This decision will simplify our structure, intensify focus on our growth and profitability goals and position us to create greater value for our shareholders,” said Erik Nordstrom in a statement.

“Despite our best efforts, we do not see a realistic path to profitability for the Canadian business.”

We’re sad to see you go, Nordstrom! But, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t looking forward to scoring some good deals at the closing sale.
