Only 9 years after opening their first maple location in Calgary, Alberta, Nordstrom has announced that will  “discontinue support” for their businesses north of the U.S. border and will be closing all Nordstrom Canada locations later this year.

“We regularly review every aspect of our business to make sure that we are set up for success,” said Erik Nordstrom in a recent statement.

“We entered Canada in 2014 with a plan to build and sustain a long-term business there. Despite our best efforts, we do not see a realistic path to profitability for the Canadian business.”

Based in Seattle, Nordstrom currently has 2,500 employees and 13 stores in total, including Nordstrom Rack locations.

Sadly for those who clock into work every morning or frequent the luxury chain or, these closures will be complete by June of 2023.

“We want to thank our team for their performance and dedication in serving customers in Canada. This decision will simplify our structure, intensify focus on our growth and profitability goals and position us to create greater value for our shareholders.”

As for their Canadian e-commerce platform, they plan to cease operations today, March 2nd, 2023.
