Here are the new best restaurants in Toronto to try this September

Another month slipped through our fingers before we could even realize it was over. It was fun while it lasted but that doesn’t mean the excitement has to end. With September right around the corner, that means more exciting things are to come, like more restaurant experiences for example.

Toronto has so much to offer when it comes to the culinary scene that it feels like new restaurants are opening almost every week. And we’re not complaining.

That just means we have so much more to go and try.

Need some suggestions? Here are just a few new best restaurants in Toronto to try this September:

Kiin

Though not necessarily new, Kiin is reopening its doors after two years thanks to the pandemic. Owners Jeff Regular and Chef Nuit Regular are excited to bring back this delightful spot just in time for TIFF. The menu will feature fan-favourite dishes like the Chor Ladda “flower” dumplings, the Khao Yum rice salad, and the Boombai Short Rib Curry. Chef Regular is also looking into adding some new dishes like Pad Thai Hor Kai.

Miss Likklemores

If you visited Miss Likklemore’s pop-up location back in 2020, you may miss its Johnny Too Bad, in addition to the rest of its menu. This is why we are so happy to say that the popular, and loved, Caribbean spot is now open at its new permanent home, 433 King Street West. The new 65-seat restaurant will also include an intimate 12-seat private dining room, an open concept kitchen, and an outdoor patio. Make your reso before it fills up!

Alder

Earthy, simple, and functional is possibly the best way to describe the Alo team’s newest dining destination. Introducing Alder, a sophisticated yet warm dining space that offers seasonal fare made by award-winning Chef Patrick Kriss. Guests can expect a bold menu made on a wood-fired grill for that smokey flavour. Along with its menu selections, Alder offers classically inspired cocktails, craft beers, and a selection of wines.

Where: Ace Hotel – 51 Camden St

Boukan

Another notable spot, Boukan is reopening but this time, at a newer, much larger location, 774 Danforth Ave. Though they were only open for a few months, the Upper Beaches community, where it once served, fell in love with its Haitian cuisine. Their menu will be merged with Edible Bliss 11, another Black-owned small business, to offer a brand-new unique Haitian and Caribbean fusion menu.

Where: 774 Danforth Ave

Sunny’s Chinese

What once started as a pop-up resto has now blossomed into a full-fledged brick-n-mortar location in Kensington Market. Sunny’s Chinese is officially open and accepting reservations. Guests can expect a space that’s casual and playful as they enjoy a delightful menu developed by Schwartz and Culinary Partner, Chef Braden Chong. Along with its menu comes an extensive natural wine list. They will also have a wide selection of Baijiu in stock. It’s a rare find in Canada.

Where: 60 Kensington Ave

¡Que Rico! Tapas Bar

A tropical paradise is right around the corner. Toronto’s newest destination for Latin cuisine, music, and entertainment is now open in Little Italy. Its menu features cuisine from countries all over Latin America including Cuba, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Colombia, Peru, and more.

Where: 720 College St

Il Padrino

Toronto’s newest dining spot for authentic Italian cuisine is here. Il Padrino has recently opened its doors on College St, serving the best flavours around. From Gnocchi Alla Vodka to Melanzane pizza, this spot is the place to check out.

Where: 579 College st
