If there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that people absolutely love to rank universities. And, maybe no publication more than Times Higher Education keeps us informed about the cream of the crop, academically. A new ranking is showing the best universities in Canada for 2022. So, let’s check it out!

For the ranking, Times Higher Education uses 13 different ‘indicators’ that can be summed up in four areas. These are teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. So, think things like the number of published articles in a given year, the number of PhDs awarded by the university, and the student-to-staff ratio.

But, we’re really only interested in where the best universities in Canada for 2022 have landed. We’ve got 32 different universities ranked, but only 7 of those fall in the top 200 (thereby earning a dedicated ranking). Fun fact- this puts us in 7th worldwide, just behind the Netherlands and tied with Sweden. Not bad.

Anyway, the 7 universities are:

18. University of Toronto
37. University of British Columbia
44. McGill University
80. McMaster University
88. University of Montreal
125. University of Alberta
162. University of Ottawa

Of course, we think any kind of higher education is a good decision! Whether you’re tryna become a professor at Oxford, or just upgrading at a community college, there’s never any harm in learning something new! To check out this new list of the best universities in the world, just click here.
