Chinook Blast is back for another year with old favourites along with some new and exciting features. Expect activations throughout Calgary’s downtown from Friday, February 2 until Monday, February 19 for just over 2 weeks of community fun.

There will be live performances, dazzling light displays, lots of Instagramable moments, and interactive winter events. From music, lights, events, and sports, the festival is set to awe and impress with an array of new activities and installations that promise to make the event more vibrant than ever.

More lights, more music, more events, more sports! 

Chinook Blast

Chinook Blast is already known for its electrifying displays and cozy atmosphere, and this year they’re taking it to the next level.

  • Art Installations:
    Prepare yourself for new art installations that will be sprinkled throughout downtown for all to experience.

  • Live Performances:
    Keep an eye on the hub of Chinook Blast, the Olympic Plaza stage, for free live performances and cultural experiences. This year you can check out programming from Block Heater, High Performance Rodeo, GlobalFest, BIG Winter Classic, Ehtnik Festivals and Calgary International Blues Fest, among others!

  • Artisan Markets:
    Get ready to shop the Four Winds Indigenous Showcase & Market, ImaginAsian Night Market by Asian Heritage Foundation, and Market Collective at the City Hall Atrium.

  • Lunar New Year:
    2024 marks the Year of the Dragon and Calgary is invited to join the celebrations at Chinook Blast. Come down on February 9 at the Asian Night Market and Lantern Parade for a performance by
    The Honan Shaolin Golden Dragon dance team.

  • Circus Performance:
    Check out the Glow Fusion Experience on February 9 at the Artists Pavillion for a one-of-a-kind celebration of Lunar New Year brought to you by MakeFashion, Cirque De La Nuit, and Indi City! In collaboration with the Gai Lan Ensemble and the Asian Heritage Foundation, this event combines wearable tech, circus arts, and dance performances to showcase a mesmerizing fusion of cultures.

  • Chinook Slide:
    This one is brand new! On Sunday, February 4 from 12 PM to 4 PM, you can try your hand at curling with the pros! Enjoy an exhilarating afternoon of curling, featuring a celebrity athlete match with Cheryl Bernard and Darby Taylor, along with an interactive learn-to-curl event with instructions from the pros.

  • Family-Friendly Programming:
    Of course, there will be events happening all month long! Stop by on the weekends and on Family Day Monday to see Gustovo the Impossiblist, do some Family Day Skating, and meet the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo’s life-size polar bear puppet, ‘Fjord’.
