The Alberta weather forecast has not been kind, but things are looking up!

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), parts of the province will see double-digits next week – but that’s not all!

“There’s quite a change coming comparatively to what we saw through the middle of January,” Samantha Mauti, a meteorologist with ECCC told Curiocity.

“Throughout the rest of the week, into the weekend and then into early next week, we’re seeing these temperatures get progressively warmer.”

This, of course, is fantastic news for those who have dreaded leaving the house in the morning.

“Basically what’s happening is that we’re seeing this upper ridge build into the western parts of the country,” she continued.

“For both Calgary and Edmonton, we’re seeing high forecasts in the double digits as we move into the weekend and early next week.”

The very best part? Though it’s important to remember that winter is still winter in Canada, Mother Nature could cut us a bit of slack.

“It does look like we are expecting temperatures to be above normal, however, that doesn’t mean there won’t be some cold air around for the rest of the winter. It’s possible we’ll still see some lower temperatures as we saw with extreme cold a couple of weeks ago.”

“Cold air is still possible, but that will still trend above normal.”

For reference, normal daytime highs at the end of January are around -2°C in Calgary and -7°C in Edmonton.

“So there’s a pretty significant warmup coming,” Mauti concluded.

So there you have it. Cozy things are coming, Alberta – but don’t get too comfortable.

Enjoy and happy exploring!
