Here’s how much Netflix is raising its monthly prices in the US

Netflix started 2022 off hot with a whole host of new additions. But those new additions come at a cost and that means the streaming company is raising the prices on its plans in the United States and Canada. It looks like the days of $8 Netflix are far in the past.

American Netflix users will now pay $15.49 for the standard plan (a $1.50 increase),  $9.99 for the basic plan (a $1 increase), and $19.99 for the premium plan (a $2 increase).

“We understand people have more entertainment choices than ever and we’re committed to delivering an even better experience for our members,” Netflix said in a statement. “We’re updating our prices so that we can continue to offer a wide variety of quality entertainment options. As always we offer a range of plans so members can pick a price that works for their budget.”

Basically, Netflix needs to continue to make money as they have spent billions on adding new content for users. When you think about it, it seems like everyone and their mother has an account. So with a still growing but slow subscriber base, the company needs to find ways to make revenue.

Annoying? Perhaps. Surprising? No. That’s the way the cookie crumbles and if you have an account you might as well make the most of all of those new additions this month.
