You can’t go wrong with an afternoon in Banff. Luckily, the town’s second pedestrian bridge makes it even easier to get around. This charming footbridge in the heart of downtown has panoramic views for scenic strolling. And you might not even know about it!
While Banff is a tourist destination attracting travellers from all around the world, Calgarians are pretty familiar with the famous sights. It’s only an hour away from the city, and it’s probably the first place you bring out-of-town visitors. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t still spots to explore!
The Nancy Pauw Bridge is Banff’s second footbridge and connects Central Park to the Recreation Grounds for the benefit of pedestrians and cyclists. It’s a convenient way to access the park from downtown. Not to mention a beautiful one! The bridge crosses the Bow River and offers unbeatable views of Cascade Mountain, Mt. Rundle, and Sulphur Mountain. It also serves to help connect visitors to attractions on Cave Avenue, such as the Cave and Basin National Historic Site, and the commercial horse stables.
This spot officially opened to the public in the fall of 2022 thanks to funding from the Wim & Nancy Pauw Foundation and the Government of Canada. Will and Nancy’s foundation was created to support local projects that allow others to embrace mountain culture, education, and recreation.
Check out the Nancy Pauw footbridge next time you’re in Banff. It’s a great photo op for your visiting in-laws… and the perfect day trip to tire them out.
