The only day-use Ontario Park on Manitoulin Island has a trail through old glacier beaches

Time for a trip to Manitoulin Island! If you haven’t been to the iconic island in in Northern Ontario then it’s time to add this to your summer bucket list. Misery Bay Provincial Park is Manitoulin Island’s only operating day-use provincial park and it has some stunning sights you won’t want to miss out on.

If you’re taking the trip to Misery Bay Provincial be prepared to check out some beautiful trails!

The park has 15 KM of trails including The Coastal Alvar Trail.

This large looping trail showcases the natural features in the eastern side of the park.

The trail travels from the Visitor Centre, past old glacial beaches and dolostone pavements as it makes its way to the present-day shoreline.

From there, it travels almost 3.5 KM along the Lake Huron Alvar coastline until it intersects with the Mac’s Bay Trail, turning north along a glacial shoreline ridge, eventually leading back to the Visitor Centre. 

Be sure to take in all the sights while navigating the trails as Misery Bay Provincial Park is known for housing rare plants and globally significant ecosystems!

These hikes also lead to stunning sights and access to the scenic Lake Huron Coastline.
