Coastal adventures: This sandy beach & campground in BC is a hidden oasis (PHOTOS)

Late spring and early summer are some of the best times of the year to get out and explore BC. The sun is out, the days are long, and the weather is warm but not stifling hot, so you’re free to enjoy all the natural wonders the province has to offer without worrying about burning to a crip in the process. One of the top spots on our summer bucket list? Comox Valley’s Miracle Beach Park – which is situated between Courtenay and Campbell River.

Camping info

The scenic day trip and weekend getaway destination is perfect for families and groups, with 192 reservable front-country campsites and 202 car-accessible sites. As well, the campground has three walk-in and cycle-in campsites, and a handful of first-come-first-served sites for those who planned a more spontaneous trip out.

Recreational activities & adventures

As for the beach itself, visitors can lounge on a broad, safe sandy beach that permits dogs while on leashes, and the kids can enjoy a full playground once they’ve had their fill of swimming.

There are plenty of exciting outdoor activities visitors can take advantage of, including hiking (2 km of walking trails throughout the park), fishing, kayaking, canoeing, cycling (on roadways only), and wildlife viewing at the adjacent Black Creek. If you love exploring the coastline and tide pools, you’ll definitely want to do some wandering and exploring during low tide!

Note that the best spot for swimming is at the south beach day-use area, where the sand is soft and the crystal blue water beckons you in. However, there are no lifeguards on duty, so exercise caution when out in the water!

Nearby the park, you’ll find opportunities for horseback riding and golf – if you want to extend your visit with even more fun.

Park amenities

In terms of amenities, visitors can access clean drinking water through cold water taps throughout the campground, hot showers, a sani-station, campfires (firewood available for purchase), pit or flush toilets, and designated picnic areas.

So, there you have it, Vancouver. If you’re looking for a mix of beach and forest and want to plan a fun trip this month – look no further than Miracle Beach Park. And if you decide to visit in June, consider checking out the non-competitive annual sandcastle building day!
