If there’s one thing I love doing, it’s finding small towns in Ontario to explore. Minden Hills is one of those places that has a little something for everyone. One of the best parts of the area is the elevated park, and if you want to avoid large crowds, this is the time of year to check it out.
The small town is tucked away in Haliburton County, about two and a half hours by car from the Toronto area.
First stop is Panorama Park. This gorgeous spot overlooks Minden, and while it’s busiest during the fall for the display of changing colours, the winter season brings its own kind of beauty.
The entrance to the park is at the Cultural Centre on Bobcaygeon Road, and while there’s no lot, there is plenty of space to park on the road.
Next stop, Harrington Park. “Located on Horseshoe Lake Road, this Park allows visitors to view the spectacular beauty of the Minden Wild Water Preserve and rapids,” shares the township of Minden Hills. Stroll along the park’s footpath as you take in the sights. In the summer, there are plenty of vantage points for kayaking, too.
Work up an appetite or need a beverage? Boshkung is Minden’s local brewery, and between the beers and the bites, you’re going to leave satisfied. The food menu includes pub classics like beer cheese with dip, jumbo pretzels, spinach and artichoke dip, chicken parm sandwiches, burgers and seven kinds of pizza (just to name a few options).
As for the brews, they have almost any type of beer you can think of, from hoppy IPAs to crisp lagers.
Enjoy your day in Minden Hills, Ont.
