Ice-carving, music, and art: All the upcoming winter festivals in Edmonton

Don’t worry about the cold; these winter festivities are going to warm Edmonton right up.

Known as the city of festivals, it’s no question that Edmonton will have a collection of winter celebrations. From music festivals to pure ice-carving winter fests, these upcoming events are ones to check out this season.

Chiseled

This January, Edmonton’s International Ice Carving Competition, also known as Chiseled, will be back at the ICE District Plaza. Over three days and several long hours, bystanders can watch teams of talented ice carvers transform blocks of ice into magnificent art.

Deep Freeze: A Byzantine Winter Festival

Deep Freeze: A Byzantine Winter Festival is back for another year of winter fun in Edmonton. For only two days, you can see one of many performances, race against others on the ice, and marvel at the gorgeous art featured.

When: Saturday, Jan. 17, and Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026

Where: 118th Avenue between 90th and 95th Street
Cost: Free

Winterruption

This multi-venue music and arts festival takes over the downtown core, spreading out across the city, and features a number of free outdoor activities.

The headliners for this year are Hiss Golden Messenger, Talib Kweli, and Fear. Winterruptions undercard has names like Miz Cracker, Faze, Thumpasaurus, Open Mike Eagle, and many more talented guests.

When: Wednesday, Jan. 21, to Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026

Cost: $30+

Flying Canoë Volant

Inspired by the legend of The Flying Canoe and French Canadian, First Nations and Métis traditions, Flying Canoë Volant embraces Edmonton’s beautiful Mill Creek Ravine and the newly-established French Quarter. With relay races, traditional maple taffy stations, and more, this will be a festival to remember.

When: Wednesday, Jan. 28, to Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026
Time: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
