It’s that time of the year when we’re all once again enjoying and also craving some much-needed outdoor time. In just a few weeks, you’ll be able to catch one of the most reliable meteor showers flying overhead. Here’s what to expect from this year’s Lyrid Meteor Shower in Canada.

The Lyrids are known for being solidly reliable, producing at least 10-15 meteors an hour. That being said, sometimes they like to show off meaning that if you get lucky you might catch a burst with closer to 100 meteors, no guarantees though. Worth a look right?

As far as astrological events go, meteor showers are pretty great for a few reasons. The main reason is that they last for quite a while so if you forget to look one night you still have a chance of seeing them the next. That being said, they do have peak times and dates. At this time, the showers predicted peak date is April 22nd at 4 UTC (12 am ET, 10 pm MT, 9 pm PT).

If you want to try your luck on multiple days, the Lyrid Meteor shower will be overhead Canada from April 15th to April 29th. When it comes to where to watch, try to find the darkest place away from the glow of bright city lights. Happy stargazing!
