Calgary is about a lot more than Stampede and cowboys. Not that we don’t love those too. From the Rockies next door to the bustling downtown, there’s always something to do – no matter your idea of fun.

If you work in downtown Calgary, then you already know there’s plenty to keep you occupied on your lunch break. If you’re a remote worker and feeling a little left out, then we have good news! There are great coworking spaces available right in the heart of it all, and you can’t do any better than Workhaus.

Workhaus is a flexible coworking space that lets remote workers come together to collaborate, socialize, and get work done. It’s great for remote teams looking for an upscale space to come and go or solo professionals seeking a dose of community and networking.

If you want a ‘sometimes’ office in the heart of downtown Calgary, then you just found it. Workhaus is centrally located on 4th Street, just steps away from the C-stain station and within walking distance of some of the best shops, restaurants, and cafes in Calgary.

Here are just a few ways you can spend your lunch break.

First Street Market

If you’re feeling peckish but can’t decide what to eat, this place is perfect. First Street Market is a giant urban food hall with 9 different eateries to choose from. Grab a bite to eat, or stop by after work for daily happy hours from 4 PM to 6 PM.

Analog Coffee

If you like your caffeine, and anything other than barista made is not up to snuff, duck out of the office for a quick escape to Analog Coffee. There are a few locations in Calgary, but the closest to Workhaus is only a few minutes away. Pick up some liquid productivity to conquer your day, and maybe a snack while you’re at it.

Prince’s Island Park

Sometimes, the best way to work out a problem is to take a break and spend time in nature. Luckily there’s no other retreat quite like Prince’s Island Park, and it’s smack in the heart of downtown Calgary. Stroll along the path and lose yourself among the trees. It won’t take long to forget you’re still in the city. If you want lunch with a view, try a bite at the River Cafe – they even have a picnic menu in the spring and summer.

The Core Shopping Centre

Forget about work for an hour and indulge in the shopping bug instead. The Core Shopping Centre and its adjoining buildings are smack in the heart of downtown Calgary and have all your favourite stores from Simons, Sephora, Aritzia, and more. There’s nothing like a little retail therapy to get the creative juices flowing.

The Rooftop YYC

The best part about being a remote worker is that you don’t have to go to the office every day. So why not treat yourself when you do? Grab a bite and a bevvy (if it’s after work hours) at The Rooftop YYC, Calgary’s largest climate-controlled rooftop patio.

Pampa’s

For days when you’ve got the whole team together, you might get the best bang for your buck at an all-you-can-eat. Pampa’s downtown Brazilian steak house does not mess around. Gorge yourself on the finest lunch you’ll have in a while. Don’t worry. They make dress pants with stretch.

Stephen Avenue

Stephan Ave. is a great place to go if you haven’t made up your mind on what to do with your break. It could be that you need to stretch your legs after a busy morning at your desk. Or maybe you just want to grab a coffee and people-watch. Stroll along Stephen Ave. and see what calls to you.

Chocoland

Consider this your ‘break glass in case of emergency’ spot. There’s no work-induced crisis that a delicious dessert can’t fix. If Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory had a patio, it would be Chocoland. This downtown dessert shop is your silver bullet for days that need a pick-me-up. It’s also open late, so you can stop by after a long day at the office.

Model Milk

Stellar food, comfortable ambiance, and confirmed celebrity hotspot. Model Milk is a great place to enjoy a bite, and you might even spot someone famous while you’re there! Model Milk has garnered enough of a rep that it seems to be the go-to stop whenever stars are in town. Daisy Edgar-Jones (Under The Banner Of Heaven), Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones), Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd from The Lord Of The Rings have all been seen eating here. This ‘celebrity hotspot’ opens after 5pm, so on days when you’re too busy to grab lunch, hit this place up after work!

Chinatown

Enjoy a change of scenery and grab some boba while you walk around downtown Calgary’s Chinatown. Check out local shops, specialty markets, and walk along the river while you sip your bubble tea. If you’ve got the time, cross the bridge and hike up the stairs at Rotary Park for a spectacular (and totally FREE) view of downtown.
