Pop-ups and cocktails: Here are all the new businesses & events coming to the Lonsdale Quay

Get ready for some delicious news, Vancouver. On Wednesday, April 20th, the Lonsdale Quay announced some exciting expansion and revitalization plans in a series of posts on their Instagram page. And to say that we’re on the edge of our seats in anticipation would be an understatement!

What started as a “carnival-style marketplace” in 1986 has evolved into a massive, multi-use community space, representing the rich diversity of the North Shore. Now, the Quay is getting a series of exterior upgrades, elevated programming, a new food hall, and more, all to create a creative, culinary playground.

From new breweries and food spots to new pop-up markets, art installations, and even a new commissary kitchen – here are all the changes coming to the Lonsdale Quay this year.

Exterior upgrades

We’ll start from the outside and work our way in. Changes to the Quay’s exterior are already underway, with new building graphics coming this spring, and plans to extend the Q tower stairs to the main level this fall.

Visitors can also expect to see new awning systems to highlight each entrance for more convenient access.

New events, markets, classes & more

To ramp up its interactive programming, the Quay is introducing a ton of new artisan pop-up markets, local art exhibits, and all-ages events. Take a cooking class at the new commissary kitchen, check out a farmer’s market, or learn a new skill or craft, like candy-making.

This weekend, visitors can look forward to an Indian Street Food Cooking Class on Friday, April 21st, and a “Bob-a-ology Bubble Tea” pop-up on Saturday, April 22nd.

With events scheduled throughout the summer, those interested can stay up to date via their upcoming events page.

Food Hall & Market Bar

A renovated Food Hall is slated to re-open this fall, complete with new indoor and outdoor seating, communal tables, and community spaces. So get ready for new curated food events, live music, family-friendly activities, and much more!

In addition to new events, visitors will get to enjoy handmade dumplings at Heritage Asian Eatery, bento boxes from Takenaka, froyo from Krave Kulture, and fried chicken & waffles at Le Croq Frit.

As well, guests can sip on hand-crafted cocktails, at The Mainstay – the Quay’s official new Market Bar. That’s right, you’ll now be able to stop in for a bite and a drink, with 16 taps of BC wines, brews, and ciders to choose from.

New businesses

Finally, we come to new businesses and market vendors. From the team behind Cactus Club is King Taps, which will be getting a flagship, two-story spot at the Quay. Known for its hand-stretched pizzas and shareable entrees, King Taps will offer the perfect patio for groups large and small.

As well, Vancouver fave Strathcona Beer Company will also join the scene, serving a mix of fruit-forward brews, IPAs, Radlers and Berliner Weiss-style sours.

The Soup Meister’s Nephew and Saje Natural Wellness will also open at the Quay, joining Margitta’s Flowers (now open) and over 5,000 square feet of dance studio space.

And that’s a wrap on the Lonsdale Quay for now, Vancouver. Be sure to stay in the loop via their socials and we’ll check back in soon!
