Toronto’s getting a new public beach with skyline views

Get excited, Toronto. A new beach and green space is set to be built in the Port Lands. The destination is called Leslie Slip Lookout Park and it’ll transform an industrialized area into a gorgeous multi-use community space.

The park will be located on Martin Goodman Trail at the entrance to Tommy Thompson Park, according to CreateTO.

The public beach will be surrounded by forested dunes and will span 1.9 acres along the waterfront, with a viewing platform offering stunning views of the skyline and the Toronto Ship Channel.

“The beach and grassy dunes topography provides opportunities for ecological restoration, reforestation, and naturalization,” says CreateTO.

“This new destination will offer opportunities for year-round programming, including pop-up events, concerts and public art, as well as a unique lookout experience with a west-facing view of the downtown core, and a stunning 360 degree view of the Port Lands.”

The park is being designed and built by the same group that created Sugar Beach and Berczy Park, and both landmarks are known for their unique and creative features.

The public consultation process for Leslie Slip Lookout Park began in February 2021, and according to Urban Toronto, it is still in the pre-construction phase.

This park is far from the only new destination that will soon pop up along Toronto’s waterfront.

A massive public art trail on the new Villiers Island, a recreation hub with a floating restaurant, and a first-in-Canada “destination playground” are just a few of the many exciting things to come.
