Did you know Ontario is home to the largest outdoor pool in Canada? Byng Island Conservation Area is officially open for the season but its massive pool, not just yet. Here are all the deets.

About a 90-minute drive outside of Toronto is where you’ll find this conservation area.

Byng Island provides access to the Grand River and Lake Erie for paddling, fishing, and sailing, according to its site.

It spans across 190 hectares and is made up of Carolinian forests, wetlands, and creeks, shares the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA).

But, one of the biggest highlights of this area is its outdoor swimming pool.

It is two acres in size and can hold up to 1,000 people. And it even has a diving board!

In an email to Curiocity, the Grand River Conservation Authority confirmed the Byng Conservation Area opened on May 1st but the pool isn’t expected to open until mid-June.

Per the official website, the pool will tentatively open on June 15, 2024 until Labour Day. Pool hours are from 11 AM to 6:30 PM, and is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

For visitors aged 4 and older, a wristband is required for entry and it costs $2.75.

Given the popularity of this pool, it may reach capacity, especially on hot summer days. You can check real-time capacity updates online before you visit.

Though summer isn’t here yet, it sure does feel like it!
