Mississauga’s most picture-esque field of bright yellow flowers is now in full bloom and ready to take on visitors. The Lakeview Village sunflower field is now in its fifth year and you can now adore its more than one million flowers. And upgrade that Instagram feed too.

You can find The Lakeview Village Sunflowers at the corner of Lakeshore Rd. and Hydro Rd., and they’re completely free to visit. Sunflowers have been planted at Lakeview Village every summer since 2019, according to organizers. And it serves as the perfect spot for a family outing, a daytime adventure, or nature walk.

Though you’ll be coming by for the sunflowers, there is also an art trail you can explore or enjoy a picnic in the recreation field.

The sunflowers are not only a stunning sight to see while the community comes to life, but the field also plays a key role in restoring the natural ecosystem of the site that was previously occupied by a coal-fired power plant.

“Sunflowers are called phytoremediators which means they allow for soil optimization and support native restoration and nature conservancy. So, the field actually encourages the rehabilitation of local species such as bees, butterflies, and local wildlife. It’s just one of the ways we’re revitalizing the waterfront for our community in support of the surrounding ecosystem,” said Brian Sutherland, Director of Development, Argo Development Corp — Development Lead for Lakeview Village.

If you want to get the perfect shot, you’ll want to come within the next few weeks. The sunflowers have reached full bloom just around the end of July and typically remain in full bloom for three to four weeks.

It’s worth noting that parking is limited and is available at the Recreation Field parking lot. The best way to access them is by public transit, bike, or on foot. Bike parking is available at the Lakeview Village Sunflower Deck. Also, flower picking is prohibited to allow native species like butterflies and bees to exist peacefully.

Check out the Lakeview Village sunflower field at 985 Hydro Road. The flowers are located near the Discovery Centre at the corner of Lakeshore Rd and Hydro Rd and by the Recreation Field at the end of Hydro Rd.
