Summer is here and it’s a hot one. The best way to cool off from this scorching heat is kicking back lakeside. That means a road trip is in order for lakeside adventures in Ontario and luckily for us, we have a number of lake towns to visit this summer.
Though there are a number of lake towns across Ontario, we’ve compiled a list of just a few worth exploring.

In the heart of cottage country, you’ll find this adorable rural township in the Muskoka Lakes region.
In addition to the picturesque Bala Falls, Bala is a growing town with brand-new stores and great restaurants.
It’s surrounded by pristine forests and calm lake waters.
Gananoque is “internationally recognized as one of Eastern Ontario’s most stunning waterfront communities,” according to its website.
It is the gateway to the 1,000 Islands and sits on the beautiful St. Lawrence River.
There are plenty of activities to enjoy on the water in Gananoque, as well as a variety of spas, shops, restaurants, and quaint hotels.
Innisfil is on Lake Simcoe and is a great place to road trip to from Toronto, located just an hour and 20 minutes away by car.
According to the town’s website, some of the attractions here include over 250 km of trails, eight golf courses, the lovely Lake Simcoe shoreline, 399 acres of parks and even marinas.
Head south and you’ll hit Canada’s most southern town which also happens to be on Lake Erie, Kingsville!
This picturesque spot has Pelee Island Winery right on the water, what else could you need?
Full of art, history and natural beauty, there’s Midland, Ontario is a lovely waterfront town that’s home to three beaches and breathtaking views.
About two hours north of Toronto is the Town of Midland. It is known for having a picturesque harbourfront, culturally significant areas, and landmarks.
It’s the gateway to the famous 30,000 islands!
Paris sits at the junction of the Grand and Nith Rivers, and it’s located just 30 minutes west of Hamilton.
With its stone buildings and lovely homes on the water, it might be the closest thing that Ontario has to European charm.
Situated on the beautiful waters of Lake Erie, Port Stanley is a quaint beach town with a gorgeous beach that is picturesque in the fall.
The town is also known for its award-winning dining, events, entertainment, and an impressive selection of shops.
Whether you’re looking for a day trip or a weekend-long getaway, you won’t be disappointed by Port Stanley.
This is easily one of Ontario’s most scenic towns. Surrounded by sparking turquoise water, national parks, and natural wonders, the harbour town of Tobermory is a destination worth visiting.
Perched at the northern tip of the Bruce Peninsula, the lakeside town is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers.
Wellington describes itself as “a place you’ll never want to leave,” so it sounds like a good place to road trip to!
From Wellington Beach to the handful of wineries (Sandbanks Estate Winery, Karlo Estates Winery and Casa-Dea Estates Winery just to name a few) you’re sure to have a wonderful time.
