This historic park in BC has a creek that flows through a forest

Here’s a fun bit of local history for you – but you’ll have to act quickly if you want to see it this year! Situated near the riverside community of Terrace, Kleanza Creek Park derives its name from the Gitxsan language, meaning ‘gold.’

In the late 1890s, placer mining (in river streams) occurred at the park site, greatly influencing its early history.

Visitors of Kleanza Creek today can hike to the top of the falls to take in spectacular views of the surrounding forest and Cascade Mountains, or stroll along the creek for a refreshing hike. So get ready for a scenic adventure!

According to BC Parks, there are remnants of the Cassiar Hydraulic Mining Company operations above the stunning rock canyon.

In terms of camping, the park’s campground has a number of creekside campsites to choose from, all surrounded by breathtaking mountain vistas.

The sites are large and accessible with drinking water available via a hand pump by the parking lot.

The park also has a picnic area for campers and a day-use area.

Note that BC Parks advises visitors to stay clear of the canyon and pools until the area is determined safe following a recent rock slide.

Kleanza Creek Park is open from May 8th to September 3rd, so time is off the essence if you want to visit this year!

So there you have it, explorers. The next time you’re headed to the Skeena River Valley for a mountain-town feel, consider adding Kleanza Creek to your itinerary!
