There’s an alpaca farm you can visit just over an hour outside of Calgary

If you’re looking for a unique outdoor experience this summer, look no further than Kirk’s Alpaca Farm just outside of Three Hills, Alberta.

Yes, alpacas. Over 110 of them, to be precise. The farm was established in 2019 when a husband-and-wife team purchased 38 alpacas. From there, they learned how to shear, breed, attend markets, and source products made from alpaca fibre.

In 2020, they opened their farm to the public. Some people got into baking or fitness during the pandemic — others got into alpaca farming!

Where the wild things are

Guests are invited to visit the farm during open hours, where they can stroll through the pastures, feed the animals, and even pet the baby alpacas. There’s also a playground area perfect for families, complete with a basketball court, plasma cars, swings, slides, and more.

The onsite farm store is stocked with alpaca socks, hats, scarves, gloves, yarn, and even teddy bears and alpaca studies made from real alpaca fibre. Alpacas are so soft and charming that you’ll definitely want to take a memento home with you. The store also has over 30 local products, ice cream, drinks, and farm-fresh eggs. As far as food goes, guests are invited to bring a lunch and enjoy a picnic at the farm.

When planning your visit to Kirk’s Alpaca Farm, it’s best to book online. This helps control the flow of traffic and ensures the small Kirk’s team can plan ahead and create an enjoyable experience for everyone. If you forget, you can pay at the door — it’ll just cost you $2 more.

Kirk’s Alpaca Farm is open Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free for children under two, $10 for kids under 12 and seniors, and $15 for adults. Bring the family and enjoy an unforgettable day of fun with furry friends.
