There’s a lakeside Ontario town known for having epic year-round surfing

When you think of Ontario, you may not think of a surfing community, but there’s a small town along the shores of Lake Huron that’s known for it! Kincardine is nestled along the shores and boasts year-round surfing (if you don’t mind the frigid temperatures, that is).

Kincardine is situated between Goderich and Port Elgin along Lake Huron.

If you’re driving from Toronto, you can expect it to take you around three and a half hours.

Things to do in Kincardine

According to Visit Kincardine, “Station Beach is quickly becoming a hot spot for SURFING the Great Lakes. Named as one of Canada’s Top Nine Destinations for surfing, this is definitely a spectator’s delight.”

There are local businesses that offer board rentals, making it easy to hit the water and try it out, and don’t worry, it’s not just for the summertime.

West Shore Surf Shoppe and SurfSUP Eco Shop offer wetsuits to keep you warm so you can enjoy surfing the waves year-round.

If you prefer to stay where it’s dry, Station Beach also has a gorgeous boardwalk.

Along with the boardwalk are MOBI-Mats, rubberized mesh that enables those in wheelchairs, using a walker, or anyone who may have trouble navigating the sand, the opportunity to be by the beach.

Iverhuron Provincial Park is also in town, another spot by the water that’s popular. We recommend ending your day here because, according to the park, not only does it have stunning dunes to explore, but it’s also known for having “glorious sunsets.”

Finish your day in Kincardine at George’s on Harbour, a restaurant along the waterfront that has everything from steak and lobster pasta to Neapolitan-style pizza.

Sounds like a trip to Kincardine, Ont., is in the future!
