This Alberta island park has a soft-sand beach & an interpretive marsh trail

Looking to explore a little more of what Wild Rose Country has to offer? One picturesque island is the ultimate place for a weekend getaway or, if you’re already in the area, a midweek walk.

Located 2 and a half hours southeast of Calgary, Kinbrook Island has scenic trails and a campground with 199 sites, showers, playgrounds and even laundry – but that’s hardly all!

Visitors hoping to catch a few rays before summer comes to an end can also lounge on a soft sand beach while looking out onto Lake Newell.

Swim, tan, or paddle this blue lagoon while birds fly above, or wander the interpretive marsh trail and get a better look at the wildlife (which includes double-crested cormorants and white pelicans) that call the wetlands home.

Here, you’re in for a day of activities and are able to catch your breath – plus it’s fairly easy to get to!

To get to your destination head to Kinbrook Island Provincial Park, 13 km south of Brooks off Highway 873.

If, however, you’re hoping to stay the night be sure to book a site ahead of time as they fill up pretty quickly.

Happy travelling and enjoy!
