Peak bloom season has arrived at Ontario’s lavender fields and you don’t have to travel very far outside of Toronto to stroll among rolling hills of fragrant purple flowers. Kelso Lavender is a family-run lavender farm and shop right in the GTA.

Kelso grows a variety of English and French lavender, including Royal Velvet, Folgate, Super Blue, Melissa, Phenomenal, and Grosso.

The plants typically bloom from late June to late July, so now is the time to visit and enjoy them in all their glory.

However, different lavender varieties have different peak-bloom periods. Many French lavender plants reach peak bloom in late July to late August, so if you visit later in the summer, you will still be surrounded by plenty of purple.

In addition to strolling among the blooms, you can relax at a picnic table and snack on a refreshing lavender ice popsicle.

The plants are meant to be admired and photographed, so lavender-picking is not permitted.

However, Kelso Lavender has an on-site boutique filled with fresh and dried lavender bouquets for sale and plenty of other lavender skincare and homecare products.

You’ll definitely want to pose for photos on the purple Muskoka chair in the middle of the field.

So, round up your pals and throw on your best summer outfits for this easy afternoon excursion.
