Jasper National Park in Alberta is nothing short of incredible.
From breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains to an unbelievably supportive and resilient community, visitors are in for an unforgettable experience when they re-enter the park this season.
Before you start your engine, however, there are a few things of note.
In July of 2024, the province was made aware of the first of several wildfires which would affect the area. By September, things were under control, and while the park will never quite be the same, guests are now encouraged to visit the natural wonder once more.
According to Parks Canada, those who want to experience its beauty for the first or hundredth time can do so—for the most part.
“Jasper National Park continues to welcome visitors as the community and park recover from recent wildfires,” they told Curiocity.
“While many areas of the park remain open for exploration, some sections are undergoing restoration.”
Not sure where to go? This is where it gets tricky.
While several trails, attractions and hotels are back in business, there are a few favourites that the public is asked to skip for the time being.
This particular list does change from day to day, but Parks Canada is doing their best to keep you informed.
“We encourage visitors to prioritize safety and stay informed by checking current openings and closures at Jasper National Park Open/Closed Status,” they said.
“We recommend subscribing to our newsletter at Jasper National Park Email Updates.”
Using these resources, visitors can better understand where they are able to do everything from cross-country skiing to snowshoeing this winter—or just take a walk before the snow really hits.
Here are just a few of the most popular places you can enjoy this winter
While you should double-check your favourite business before heading out, much of the Jasper Townsite has reopened to visitors. From restaurants to shops, there are some amazing businesses that could really use your support.

Located south of the townsite, Marmot Basin Mountain Ski Resort will reopen this winter for ski and snowboard season.
“There is already a dusting of snow on the mountains and our crews are currently getting lifts ready to go for an anticipated mid-November opening,” they write.

This winter, join astronomy guides on a journey through constellations, space, and time at the Jasper Planetarium. Now that they have reopened, you can once again, wander the beautiful grounds of the world’s largest accessible astronomy park, hear stories, and take a guided binocular tour of the Milky Way.

Can’t wait to re-enter the park and support local businesses? Now’s the time!
If, however, you aren’t able to visit this upcoming season but want to support those in and around the area as they rebuild you can visit the Municipality of Jasper’s website.
According to the town, there is no capacity to accept physical donations, but financial donations are being accepted by the Jasper Community Team Society (JCTS), the Jasper Food Bank and the Canadian Red Cross.
It’s going to take time, Alberta—but they’ve made some incredible progress!
