Inglewood announces Car-Free Sundays in support of small businesses

From time to time, especially when you live in a big city, getting back to the basics can be incredibly refreshing. Talking face to face instead of texting, reading a book instead of watching TV, and (this is a big one) walking instead of driving are all things that can feel pretty dang good. For this reason, the folks in Inglewood have announced Car-Free Sundays, a new initiative to get people out, about, on their feet and supporting Calgary’s small businesses.

Though it’s a heck of a lot easier to get around from behind the wheel, zooming through the inner city can actually cause you to pass by a ton of locally-owned shops and restaurants worth checking out.

This August, Calgary’s oldest neighbourhood is taking a ‘simple life approach, asking that on the last day of every weekend, Calgarians park elsewhere and use their legs to get around instead.

In addition to the area making it a heck of a lot more difficult to fly by those businesses, this weekly pilot will also give shop owners the opportunity to comfortably extend their storefronts onto the street.

A lot fewer cars means plenty of more space to explore, and we’re all for it.

Enjoy!
