Ice on Whyte is easily one of the most unique and interesting events to come to Edmonton. And, you’ll be happy to know that it’s returning this week! If you haven’t checked it out, or just need a refresher, then we’ve got the details for you.
Since first starting up back in 2003, Ice on Whyte has become a must-visit winter attraction. As one of only three official ice carving contests across Canada, the experience offers a particularly rare art form for you to enjoy. Let’s face it- we bump into expertly created ice sculptures just about as much as we see professional sand castles. So, never.

Starting on Thursday, January 27th, ice sculptors from Edmonton and across Canada will descend on Dr. Wilbert McIntyre Park to show off their creations. Over the years, their talent has displayed both the whimsical and the realistic, from interpretations of folklore and legends to animals.
But since that’s not enough, the festival will also be hosting live ice carving demonstrations, so you can watch a pro turn a big ol’ block of ice into something beautiful right before your eyes! And, if you’re feeling inspired after seeing it, you can also check out ongoing ice carving workshops to try it out for yourself!
As for us? Well, we’re just doing another lap of the big dogs’ creations.
When: January 27th to February 6th (Closed January 31st)
