Goodbye weekend, we hardly knew ye. But, we’re not going to despair, because we’ve got some great options for fun around Edmonton this week. Check out some of the city’s best attractions, get outside, or try something new! Whatever the mood, we’ve got you covered.

Here are 10 of the best things to do in Edmonton this week.

ICE ON WHYTE

The Ice on Whyte Festival is back! Starting this week, some amazing ice sculptors will be creating stunning pieces all along Whyte Ave. Whether you’re taking a peek during a shopping trip, checking them out before or after dinner one night, or just going see them by themselves, this is a great option in the city.

When: Starts Thursday, January 27th
Where: Whyte Avenue
Cost: $6 for GA

ACC ICE WALL

Edmonton’s Ice Wall has returned for another season! This unique attraction is the perfect combination between the thrills of ice climbing without all the, you know, inherent danger of it. Whether you’re already into climbing or just wanna try something new, they’ve got options for everyone.

When: Open throughout the week
Where: 9613 96 Avenue NW
Cost: $19+

OILERS VS. PREDATORS

We’ll be the first to admit that the Oilers have not had the most stellar past few games. But, looking on the bright side, that means that their next win will feel better than ever! Plus, from a more frugal perspective, it also means that tickets are cheap as chips!

When: Thursday, January 27th
Where: 10220 104 Avenue NW
Cost: $28+

HIT A GOLF SIMULATOR

We won’t hesitate to say that golf simulators are the best way to get your ‘beginner’ (aka haven’t been playing for a decade) friends into the sport. Pair that with a few laughs, a private room, and maybe even a couple of beverages during your visit, and this is a great option.

When: Open throughout the week
Where: Multiple locations
Cost: $35+/hour

ELK ISLAND NATIONAL PARK

Elk Island is a veritable winter wonderland year after year, and luckily, you can check it out no matter the weather. Whether you’re hitting the trails, stargazing, or trying to see some buffalo in true winter fashion, this national park is always worth the drive out there.

When: Open throughout January
Where: 54401 Range Road 203, Fort Saskatchewan
Cost: $7.90 for admissions

HIT UP THE FARMERS’ MARKETS

Farmers markets trips in the winter? You better believe it! Edmonton’s markets operate year-round, offering a great place to stock up for that major weekend meal you’ve had in your mind for the past few weeks/months.

When: Open throughout the week
Where: Locations around Edmonton

OR CHECK OUT AN OUTDOOR PATIO

With weather this nice, a trip to an outdoor patio is practically a must! Our pick for this week? Little Brick, which pretty must sets the standard for a nice drink (and maybe even some food) outside.

When: Open throughout the week
Where:  10004 90 Street NW

ART GALLERY OF ALBERTA

A new exhibition arrives at the AGA this weekend! Admittedly not the most happy go lucky of options, Inheritance is a group show focusing on the legacies of racism in both social and institutional ways. But, we like it when art actually makes us think just as much as being pretty, so we definitely think it’s worthwhile.

When: Open Wednesday to Sunday
Where: 2 Sir Winston Churchill Square
Cost: $14

HOT BOY SUMMER: THE MUSICAL

Want to get a couple of laughs in this week? You might be interested in the extended run of this comedy musical put on by the Grindstone Theatre. Enjoy a satirical look at the past few months/years in the province, through the lens of a year-end university party.

When: Showtimes throughout the week
Where: 10045 156 Street NW
Cost: $40

GO SKATING

One thing’s for sure- Edmonton’s skating rinks are going to be frozen solid for quite some time. Bring a Thermos of hot chocolate with you, go for a skate, and then really feel like you earned a night inside binge-watching movies or TV shows. That’s what we do, at least.

When: Open throughout the week
Where: All around Edmonton
