New list highlights the most popular road trip destinations from Calgary

From the mountains to the border, Albertans are always up for an adventure, no matter the time of year. The hardest part? Deciding where to go next! For all of the soon-to-be staycationers, VRBO has actually launched a list of top drive-to spots all over Canada and the prairie province got its own list! Start packing your bags because here are the most popular road trip destinations from Calgary for 2021.

Based on VRBO vacation rental demand from January 1st to December 31st last year, the popular rental site was able to narrow it down to 3 different locations.

As per the report, Canmore, Golden and Whistler, BC were Alberta’s favourite drive-to destinations from Calgary this year.

While we would have liked to see an entire list of provincially-centric spots, it’s hard to deny that British Columbia has some pretty incredible sights.

For this reason, this list actually makes quite a bit of sense because, as VRBO points out. more people are working from home now and can do so with a change of scenery.

“Over the course of the pandemic, remote work and virtual school allowed families to take road trips close to home, combining work and vacation time,” they wrote.

“In 2021, demand for stays of 3-4 weeks increased by over 40% year-over-year on Vrbo; updated searches also rose by over 40% year-over-year, indicating that people care less about travelling during school breaks and company-wide holidays and are open to getting away.”

Looking for something a little more short-term? Alberta locations may not have cleared the entire list of VRBO’s most popular road trip destinations from Calgary, but 2 parks did land a spot on the top list for outdoor enthusiasts. and that should be celebrated with a day trip.
