This month has been a scorcher – but don’t just take our word for it! According to Sara Hoffman, a Meteorologist with Environment Canada, Calgary is actually on track to see the hottest August on record.

A blessing to those in the business of sunscreen, Calgary’s average temperature for August 2022 has been a spicy 19.7 °C, a tad hotter than the historic average of 19.6°C which was established in 1971 – though the experts aren’t etching anything in stone just yet!

“We’ve got 8 days left that are aggressively normal,” Hoffman told Curiocity, adding that “a lot can happen in a week.”

Over the next few days, Calgary could continue to see a mix of sun, cloud and rain with a reported low of 9°C on Saturday night and a high of 28°C on Tuesday (as of August 23rd) – so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Of course, whether this month is in fact record-breaking or just cutting it close – it’s important to note that we’re not the only ones to experience wacky temperatures over the last few weeks.

Canada as a whole has been above normal all summer long.

To the East, Churchill in Manitoba is on course to beat their record of 16°C by a single degree, while the Arctic also continues to warm at an alarming rate.

All in all – it’s certainly been one for the books – so please, continue to be safe, be smart and stay hydrated.

You never know what could happen – after all, Alberta’s got a reputation for some unreal weather patterns.
