This Calgary-made horror film is so good it’s being shown at Cannes Marché du Film this May

Horror fans – we’ve got a new one to add to your watch list, and this one comes straight to you from Calgary.

Set to show at the Cannes Marché du Film (the business counterpart to the world-renowned Cannes Film Festival) Dark Nature – a true Calgary-made horror film – was written, directed, and filmed right here in YYC, with the Rocky Mountains as the focal point.

A full-length feature by local filmmaker Berkley Brady, this uniquely Albertan project follows a therapy group on a mind-bending weekend retreat – which goes terribly wrong.

While we haven’t seen the film ourselves, Brady’s debut was selected as one of the ‘Fantastic 7,’ giving us reason to believe that it’s definitely worth checking out.

For those unaware, the Fantastic 7 is an annual collaboration between seven major film festivals including Canada’s own TIFF.

Together, these festivals select 7 films from around the world to put in front of industry icons and insiders – who can later choose to help fund or promote their favorite projects.

Essentially, this could be huge for Calgary’s film scene – and the creatives who have worked incredibly hard to put our city on the map – so fingers crossed they’re a fan!

It’s high time YYC gets the recognition it deserves.

Here’s to future Calgary-made films like Dark Nature – and to an even brighter future ahead for those in the movie-making space. We can’t wait to see it on the big screen!
