Nothing gets us into the holiday spirit like a Christmas-themed concert or carolling event. And while jamming to your favourite tunes at home is an exceptional pastime, we think these holiday concerts and shows in Vancouver are definitely worth strapping on your dancing boots for.

From cozy candle-lit concerts and classic ballets to holiday raves, here are 18 show-stopping holiday events happening in Vancouver.

The Nutcracker by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet

We’ll start off with a wintertime classic. Canada’s oldest ballet company, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, returns for another season of Nutcracker magic. Guests will enjoy sparkling costumes and sets, flawless choreography from Galina Yordanova & Nina Menon, and the iconic score by Tchaikovsky.

The Nutcracker by Goh Ballet

And speaking of The Nutcracker, Vancouver’s own Goh Ballet has a show of its own. Queen Elizabeth Theatre will once again transform into the Sugar Plum Fairy’s magical kingdom, complete with life-sized toy soldiers and the notorious Mouse King. If it’s been a while since you’ve seen a rendition of the iconic holiday ballet live, we can’t recommend it enough.

Making Spirits Bright by the Vancouver Men’s Choir

The Vancouver Playhouse has been a staple in the city’s performing arts scene since 1962. And this year, they’re bringing back a beloved annual tradition: Making Spirits Bright with the Vancouver Men’s Choir. The talented group will sing all the classic Christmas tunes you know and love.

Music for the Winter Solstice

Music on Main is returning to Heritage Hall this month with a special concert ahead of the astronomical first day of winter, bringing all of the warm, candlelit vibes we need to get through the darkest day of the year: Winter Solstice 2022. If you’re looking for a cute date night idea or event to mark a special occasion, this is it.

The Messiah – Pacific Theatre

With showtimes at 2 pm on Saturdays and 8 pm Wednesday to Saturday, the Pacific Theatre’s The Messiah is a celebrated tradition and it’s officially back this year. Witness the comedic Christmas story unfold as three performers (including an opera singer) play a cast of thousands.

Home Alone in concert

This year, you can see this holiday fave in concert in addition to your screen at home. The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra presents Home Alone in concert, performing renowned composer John Williams’ “charming and delightful score.”

A Holiday Rave – The Beaumont Studios

Yes, you read that right. The Beaumont Studios is hosting a holiday-themed rave by Leave Us Lost & Jk Gaultier, and we’re sure this one will definitely get you on your feet.

Christmas with Chor Leoni

Chor Leoni presents its seasonal celebration of light, hope, and connection, with performances ranging from holy to hilarious. The annual tradition will share an inspiring repertoire of timeless holiday classics and winter harmonies, including two world premiere commissions from Canadian composers and three-holiday treasures newly arranged for Chor Leoni.

When: December 16th, 17th, and 19th
