7 Alberta swimming holes you should visit before summer is over
Few places are better than an Alberta swimming hole to escape the bustle of a big city – but it won’t be long until it’s too cold to make a splash.
Luckily, temperatures are still high enough to hit the many pools and ponds hidden in Wild Rose Country’s mountains, valleys, and canyons – but there’s no time to waste.
Pack a towel and some snacks – here are just a few you should consider visiting before summer’s end.
Herbert Lake
A magical place surrounded by mountain peaks, Herbert Lake is a beautiful place to take a swim on a hot day. Want to check it out? According to Banff and Lake Louise, visitors should keep their eye out for a diving board.

Bow Lake
Heating up? Bow Lake is a cold treat on a hot day – but don’t let that deter you from visiting if the temperatures drop. With or without a bathing suit, this place is incredibly beautiful and worth a visit.

Quarry Lake
A local favourite! Located just outside the town of Canmore, Quarry Lake is a gorgeous spot with incredible views of the mountains, trees, and wildlife. Interested in checking it out? Don’t forget a cooler because there is a ton of space to enjoy a picnic by the water.

Johnson Lake
A beautiful spot nestled among some of the oldest Douglas fir trees in Alberta, those who visit Johnson Lake can go canoeing, have a picnic, or go swimming! Johnson Lake is considered “one of the warmest lakes in the Canadian Rockies.”

Forget Me Not Pond
A little slice of paradise! Forgetmenot Pond is pretty chilly, but this water is crystal clear and so inviting – especially on extra hot days. Check it out and take a quick dip, then enjoy a picnic and the view.

Two Jack Lake
Want to play mermaids? Two Jack Lake in Banff, Alberta is one of the best places to do so if you can appreciate your surroundings. It’s gorgeous!
