If you live in Seattle or another surrounding city, life might not feel so quiet. But what if we told you that tucked away in our state is actually one of the quietest places in the world? Believe it or not, it’s true, the Hoh Rainforest is seriously quiet, and here’s where you can find it.

The recognition comes from Quiet Parks International, a nonprofit “committed to saving quiet for the benefit of all life.”

With that in mind, the intention of revealing quiet places is not for people to flock to them but rather to respect them. If you choose to visit, it is your job to leave no trace and help the forest remain quiet.

There’s no official ranking for “quiet places”, rather these places are nominated by people who feel they meet the nonprofit’s criteria. That being said, the Hoh Rainforest has been recognized by research project One Square Inch of Silence as being one of, if not the most quiet, places in the US.

Keep in mind, these places are not dead silent, instead they are naturally silent. You’ll hear birds, wind moving through foliage, and the weather instead of talking, phones, and distant car and airplane traffic.

There are even a few urban places in Seattle that have been mentioned including Discovery Park, Ravenna Park, and more. With that, enjoy the quiet.
