Here’s our weekly rundown of good news stories from across Canada

Another Friday is here and folks, you know what that means. Okay, maybe you don’t know what that means. In that case, we’ll just go right out and say it: it’s the good news round up.

We gather up good news stories from across the country and get them to you in one, neat little package. Whether it be stories about cute animals, life-saving initiatives, or just general good vibes, we make it our duty to get those good news stores to you.

So, without further ado, let’s get into it!

A man in Nanaimo got himself a pet duck when his dinner hatched

This is just plain cute. A couple in Nanaimo was preparing a Cambodian dish, duck eggs, when suddenly one of the eggs hatched. We guess the baby duck’s cuteness outweighed their hunger and they opted to keep it as a pet. Since then, the man and the duck have been friends, taking walks together and just hanging out.

Toronto was ranked one of the world’s safest cities

According to a recent study done by The Economist’s Safe City Index, Toronto is one of the safest big cities in the world. So safe, in fact, that it came in at number 2, beaten only by Copenhagen in Denmark. The ranking was based on digital security, health security, infrastructure security, environmental security, and personal security. Now that’s awesome!

To fight the overdose crisis, activists in Vancouver are giving away safe drugs

Anything that prevents more deaths is good in our books! You may know that BC, and a lot of the world, is facing an opioid overdose crisis. The biggest cause of it is an unsafe, black market drug supply. So, to help save lives, the Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users is giving away free, safe drugs to users. Harm reduction in action is a wonderful thing.

Wreck Beach in Vancouver was ranked one of the top beaches in the world to skinny dip

Nothing beats swimming in the ocean without a restrictive swimsuit. If you’ve ever been to Vancouver you know that Wreck Beach is the place to swim au naturel. And that spot was just recognized on an international list! Placed along with beaches from across the world, Wreck was ranked one of the top places to swim without any clothes on.

Canadian travellers to the UK won’t be required to quarantine starting Monday

Looking to visit jolly old London? Or maybe the highlands of Scotland? Well, it just got a little bit easier! As of Monday, August 30 visitors from Canada to the United Kingdom won’t have to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. And that means ALL visitors, regardless of vaccination status. We’re taking this as a good sign that things are getting better!

And, there’s your good news round up. Feel relaxed? Feel the good vibes? Feel like Friday is finally here and you’re happy as heck? Well good, we’re happy to have brought you this little round-up. And, you know what, it was so much fun we’re going to do it again next week.
