Here are the public drinking plazas Vancouver confirmed for this summer

Well folks, the Vancouver City Council has voted, and the city is about to get 3 public drinking plazas for the summer this year. The vote comes after city staff recommended a total of 4 plazas around Vancouver, so let’s see which ones made the cut.

Of the original four plazas proposed, the three locations this summer will be:

• 800 Robson – new site
• Cambie & 17th Temporary Pop-Up Plaza
• Fraser & 27th Temporary Pop-Up Plaza

So technically, the only location to come back from last year is the location at Cambie Street and 17th Avenue. The Vancouver Art Gallery’s North Plaza was another spot in 2020, but this year’s location will be on the south side.

Meanwhile, the plaza proposed at 4th Avenue and Maple Street did not make the cut. The problem here was feedback from emergency services, which will require further review for going forward. So, it might be made available later this summer, but we doubt it.

The plazas will officially open on May 31st, and will close in early October. Each plaza will be ‘open’ for consumption between 11AM and 9PM daily. And, with the proximity of local restaurants in mind, there’s no doubt they’ll be popular spots all summer long.
