Alright folks, the first of what is sure to be many yearly roundups has been relieved, and it’s coming from a huge name. YouTube has revealed the top videos in Canada this year, and we’ve got a real mixed bag of content to check out. From major content creators and live shows to uh, some more niche directions, the 2021 roundup reflects the insane diversity of a platform like YouTube. Let’s check it out!

1. MrBeast, I Spent 50 Hours Buried Alive

Synonymous with even the idea of a ‘content creator’, MrBeast’s outlandish stunts, major giveaways, and even a quick foray into the world of burgers have pretty much made him a household name, at least among the younger crowd. Will he take the crown next year with his recent Squid Game spinoff? He just might!

2. Mark Rober, Glitterbomb Trap Catches Phone Scammer (who gets arrested)

There’s something just so incredibly satisfying about watching scammers and porch pirates get hit with the glitter bomb. Mark Rober, who is the originator of the idea, pulled off one of his most impressive glitter bombs yet, using the help of another major scammer catcher.

3. Dream, Minecraft Speedrunner VS 5 Hunters

Of course, Minecraft had to make an appearance (or multiple) on this list. First up is a manhunt wherein Dream, who was/is a Minecraft speedrunner (someone who tries to complete the game really fast) evades his friends in the game. Not our cup of tea, to be honest, we’re more about that Mirror’s Edge life.

4. Sidemen, SIDEMEN TINDER IN REAL LIFE 3

Credit where credit is due, this is a hilarious concept. The British YouTube group essentially recreated Tinder in real life, complete with a serious amount of crude ‘bedtime’ jokes to go with it. Bonus points for trying pickup lines half to make your friends laugh, and half to actually attract a lady.

5. NFL, The Weeknd’s FULL Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show

Even if you haven’t seen the memorable Super Bowl Halftime show from this year in full, you’ve absolutely seen screenshots from it. We won’t lie, The Weeknd came to entertain, and passed that test with flying colours.

Ok, we’re going to stop our rambling opinions about YouTube here, and let the rest of these videos speak for themselves…

6. The Late Late Show with James Corden, An Afternoon with Prince Harry & James Corden

7. America’s Got Talent, Golden Buzzer: Nightbirde’s Original Song Makes Simon Cowell Emotional

8. Forge Labs, I Spent 100 Days in a Zombie Apocalypse in Minecraft… Here’s What Happened

9. Dude Perfect, Game Night Stereotypes

10. SAD-ist, Hog Hunt | Dream SMP Animation

So yeah, 2021 proved to be a real mixed bag for the top YouTube videos in Canada. We’ve got royal drama, we’ve got the Super Bowl, and we’ve got quite a bit of Minecraft-related content. Maybe we need to start streaming ourselves? Nah, just kidding, that’s way out of our depth.
