It’s no secret that Toronto is one of the country’s hotspots when it comes to film and television production. Even throughout a global pandemic, the city is churning out awesome project after awesome project; shot right here on our city streets. This June, there’s tons of great stuff in store, so if you’re out walking and you pass a series of trailers and hefty equipment, perhaps you’ll stumble upon the set of one of these incredible upcoming works.

Here are a few of the most exciting projects that are filming in Toronto this month.

THE MARSH KING’S DAUGHTER

This highly-anticipated project is based on Karen Dionne’s novel of the same name. The Marsh King’s Daughter follows the story of Helena Pelletier, a woman with a secret who must hunt down a dangerous man from her past. It’s set to star Daisy Ridley, Ben Mendelsohn, and Joseph Daly. The thrilling shoot is currently slated to begin on June 14th.

THE BOYS: SEASON THREE

The past two seasons of this mega-hit have been a success, so it’s safe to say the third will be as well. Folks in Toronto have already spotted the action while the popular series, The Boys, films in the city. Fun fact, this awesome TV show was named by former President Barack Obama in his 2020 roundup of favourite movies and shows. If Obama gives his stamp of approval, we sure do too!

STATION 11

Have you ever wondered what life would be like if you survived a deadly flu pandemic. Oh, wait… Well, this upcoming series, based on Emily St. John Mandel’s 2014 novel of the same name, tells the story of just that. The science fiction miniseries is set to star powerhouse actors Deborah Cox, Mackenzie Davis, Danielle Deadwyler, and Matilda Lawler. Given the undeniable parallels between the plot’s premise and the current state of the world, we think this one will be a hit.

Jason Momoa is back in the city for his ongoing AppleTV series See. This popular show began rolling in Toronto and surrounding areas in May and is set to continue until October. If you’ve never seen it, the story is a science-fiction drama that imagines a world in which everyone has lost the ability to, well, see. With Jason Momoa as the lead, there’s no going wrong here.

PRETTY HARD CASES: SEASON TWO

The second season of this Canadian hit is shooting in the city all month long. Pretty Hard Cases is a police comedy-drama. The show stars Canadian funny-woman Meredith MacNeill, alongside Orange is the New Black alumna, Adrienne C. Moore. You can catch up on the first season right now on CBC Gem.

If you were a big reader as a kid, you’ll be excited for this one. Nancy Drew’s male counterpart, the Hardy Boys have their own show! The second season of that show is set to begin shooting right here in Toronto at the end of this month. If you like mysteries and TV dramas this one’s for you.

CHUCKY: SEASON ONE

Now, if you’re a horror fan, listen up. We all remember the infamous horror icon Chucky. The creepy character made his first appearance in the 1988 film Child’s Play. From there, Chucky became a cultural icon, appearing in numerous horror films in years to follow. Well, now Chucky is getting his own TV show, and it’s shooting, you guessed it, right here in Toronto. Filming is already underway, having reportedly begun back in March, and is set to continue until August.
