Based on the true story of real-life gunslinger and cowboy, Billy The Kid will actually be written by Michael Hirst, a man who has made a name for himself depicting other historical figures like Queen Elizabeth and King Henry VII in fictionalized films and TV shows like The Tudors and 1998s Elizabeth. This particular series will star Tom Blythe (The Golden Age) as the misunderstood outlaw and will begin shooting later this month.

Using the code name ‘Raphanis,’ the Calgary Film Centre has been working tirelessly to revise the ’80s children’s classic Fraggle Rock which was picked up by Apple TV earlier this year. The show will be co-produced by New Regency Productions and The Jim Henson Company; who has stayed pretty true to the puppet masters’ vision of a sing-songy world. Wholesome. Unfortunately for those who are just getting word of this now, production actually wraps this month – but we have a feeling that they’ll be back!

Based on the best-selling books by C.J. Box, 10-episode series Joe Pickett, will star Michael Dorman (Daybreakers and The Invisible Man) and Julianna Guill (The Resident, Civil War) as Joe Pickett and his wife Marybeth, a couple uncovering the secrets of their small town in Wyoming as the residence learn to adjust to the changing political climate. This will shoot in and around Calgary until the end of August, so keep your eye out!

Rumoured to be directed by Ron Howard, Under the Banner of Heaven will delve into the gruesome 1984 murder of Brenda Lafferty and her infant daughter, Erica. An adaption of Jon Krakauer’s true crime novel written about the event, the series will explore the psyche of her brothers-in-law, Ron and Dan Lafferty who were charged with the murders after they claimed to have received messages from God to do so.

Starring Amber Midthunder (Legion and The Ice Road) as Kee, a badass 19-year-old who is expected to take on the extraterrestrial trophy hunter, Predator 5 will actually start filming this June and will roll through until August. This will be the first of the series since Disney bought out 20th Century Fox, so it should be interesting to see what comes of it.

This one is major, Calgary! Starring Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, Game of Thrones) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones), The Last Of Us (a live-action take on the video game of the same name) follows Joel, a man tasked with escorting a teenaged girl from an oppressive quarantine zone through an apocalyptic wasteland to safety. The Show is currently casting extras and is set to start filming this July.
