Well, we were only half right, folks – things are even bigger than we thought. Not only is HBO’s upcoming Alberta-shot series, The Last Of Us, the largest project ever filmed in the province, but it’s also being reported as the most expensive show filmed in the country and will be among other notoriously pricey productions like The Pacific and Game Of Thrones.

Based on a popular video game of the same name, The Last Of Us will follow protagonist, Joel, a smuggler who is tasked with escorting a young girl across a post-apocalyptic America and will star Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, who HBO fans will almost recognize immediately.

As those who live in the area already know, with extras and an incredible cast in place, production was able to kick off right on time earlier this July and will continue on into next year when the show is also set to premiere.

So how much will this bad boy cost, exactly?

According to several publications, each episode will cost a whopping $10 million, surpassing its big-budgeted predecessors, The Mandalorian and Game Of Thrones, the latter of which didn’t actually sneak into the double digits until its later seasons.

Turns out, other than The Pacific’s WWII magic (which cost $20 million) the only thing more expensive than dragons are zombies, and The Last of Us has a lot of ’em.

If you’re like us and can’t wait to see what all the buzz is about, it won’t be too much longer until we can see TV’s sure thing, Pascal Pedro, take on the end of the world. As we mentioned earlier the show will hit the small screen in 2022, though an exact date has yet to be released.

Until then, keep your eyes open if you live in and around Calgary, and let us know if and when you bump into anyone notable – after all, it’s only bound to happen!
