Theatre fans, rejoice! Mirvish Productions just announced its 2022/2023 theatre season, and Hamilton is returning to Toronto.

Not only that, there are new premiers on the horizon, including Mean Girls!

According to Mirvish, the season will feature 14 shows, including 6 main and 3 off-Mirvish season shows, and 5 bonus shows.

Hamilton’s anticipated return comes following its cancellation back in 2020 due to the start of the pandemic. Besides that, let’s see what else is coming to Toronto!

This year, Toronto gets to experience award-winning, acclaimed and popular new plays and musicals from London and New York including: the hit London comedy, The Shark is Broken (September-November), based on the true story of the making of the blockbuster film, Jaws; and Broadway’s hit musical comedy, Mean Girls (October-November), based on the film of the same name.

Also coming to Toronto are the new British musical, Fisherman’s Friends (November – January 2023), based on a true story about friendship, community and music; the Canadian premiere of Pressure (January – March 2023), a new drama based on the true story of the planning of the D-Day invasion, written by David Haig and starring Downton Abbey’s Kevin Doyle; the Tony, Grammy, Olivier and Pulitzer Prize-winning Hamilton (February 2023); and the Tony and Grammy-winning Best Musical Hadestown (July-August 2023).

As for the Off-Mirvish Season offers, that includes Studio 180 Theatre’s 20th Anniversary production of the Tony Award-winning play with music Indecent (October-November 2023), featuring an all-star Canadian cast; the Canadian premiere of Things I Know to be True (January-February 2023); and Crow’s Theatre’s acclaimed production of As You Like It, or The Land Acknowledgement (March-April 2023) written by and starring Cliff Cardinal.

The bonus shows are Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which is now in previews at the CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre and will open on June 19; Mike Delamont’s award-winning and hilarious satire, God is a Scottish Drag Queen (July 29-31) at the CAA Theatre; Chase Padgett’s virtuosic 6 Guitars (August 2-7) at the CAA Theatre; the return of the 50th anniversary production of Jesus Christ Superstar (August 10-21) at the Royal Alexandra Theatre; and the Toronto premiere of Jagged Little Pill (June 27-July 3, 2023), the new Broadway musical based on Alanis Morissette’s world-changing music, at the Royal Alexandra Theatre.
