According to Scenic Caves Nordic Centre’s website, guests can expect “the trails you’ve come to know and love during the day provide an entirely different experience by night.”
“Since your vision is impeded by darkness, your sense of hearing is heightened, making every rustle, whisper or coo that much more intense. On a clear night, explore constellations or wish upon a shooting star.”
The guided tour includes a trail pass, snowshoes, and headlamps. Guests will get to experience the forest trails, lookout points and trek across Southern Ontario’s longest Suspension Bridge taking in the night sky over Georgian Bay and Collingwood.
There’s even a treat waiting for you afterwards! Upon returning to the lodge, guests can relax by the fire pit enjoying a hot cider or hot chocolate with fellow snowshoe hikers! Additional snacks and hot beverages are available to purchase at the snack bar as well.
If the idea of snowshoeing in the dark is a little nerve-wracking, don’t worry! Scenic Caves Nordic Centre assures no experience is required. The minimum age to participate is 10 years old, so if have children over 10 you can even make it a family outting.
Be sure to check in before the experience as hikes are weather-permitted. Scenic Caves Nordic Centre’s website states “Should there not be enough snow, guided night hikes will still run. Guests will be provided with ice cleats, and a longer hiking experience exploring more of the trails.”
The recommended attire includes layers for warmth, warm waterproof boots, winter hat, mitts or gloves.
The guided hikes begin at 6pm in January, and February; and start at 6:30pm in March lasting approximately 1.5-2 hours. If you want an extra cool experience, the tour on February 24th will be during the full Snow Moon!
