We’ve all made the same mistake. We wait way too long to get a pumpkin to carve right before Halloween, go to the closest grocery store, and then end up with a bruised and battered ‘hack-o’-lantern’. Getting a pumpkin should be an event, not an errand. This year, don’t make the same mistake. Here are 6 different pumpkin patches in and around Calgary that’ll breathe life back into the Halloween tradition.
This adorable family farm is an ultimate fall activity. Not only will you leave with a ripe orange friend, but you’ll also exit the gates with some adorable autumn memories. Get overwhelmed in their pumpkin patch, catch a glimpse of some glorious goats, and then head over to the year-round farmers market.
Where: 226066 112 St W, Foothills No. 31, AB

COBB’S CORN MAZE AND ADVENTURE PARK
First off, they have kangaroos. Cobb’s is an adorable autumn staple with all-ages fun and staff that is warm and inviting. Pick a pumpkin, play some mini-golf, put your aim to the test during archery tag, and get tangled up in the ropes course. When you finally get free, get lost in the corn maze…
And then pet the kangaroos.
Where: 1500 84 St NE, Calgary
When: Saturdays and Sundays all October
Welcome to Butterfield Acres, one of the cutest pumpkin patches in Calgary. Here, you’ll practically become a professional farmer. Learn the tricks of the trade then pet a few crazy adorable animals. The pumpkins are nice, but cuddling the baby goats is nicer.

Kayben is another family-run farm. They put nature above all else and are very focused on the animals and the company that they keep. Also, they have a ton of super fun fall activities, outdoor games, a petting zoo, and of course, more pumpkins.
Where: 316034 32 St E, Okotoks
When: All Month Long
These guys have been in the pumpkin game for over 16 years. That’s a long-ass time to get to know a gourd. Not only are they well versed in the art of pumpkin growing, but they’re also well mannered. Bluegrass works closely with the Alberta Children’s Hospital to raise funds with their annual fall event…so take a wagon ride into good karma Ville.
Oh, they also do this thing where they drop a 500-pound squash from a crane, so that’s pretty dope too.
Where: 260130B Writing Creek Cres, Rocky View No. 44, AB
When: October 12th
Time: 11:00am – 3:00pm
Cost: A Donation at the gate
The Calgary farmyard is fall. They know four things almost better than anyone on the list: Corn mazes, kettle corn, corn dogs, and pumpkins. Pick the perfect Jack o’ lantern, play some outdoor carnival games. Find your inner Tiger woods during a VERY serious round of glow in the dark mini golf and then bounce on over to the trampoline park.
Where: 284022 Township Rd 224, Rocky View No. 44, AB
When: Every Saturday and Sunday in October
Sounds like a lot more fun than picking your pumpkins from the same place you pick your toilet paper, hey? Fall is the season of Instagram and the frozen food aisle isn’t as cute. Sorry about it.
