Headed to the mountains? You may have to switch up your plans.

Grotto Mountain Day Use Area, Grotto Pond and Grotto Creek Canyon Trail will be temporarily closed to the public and the reason shouldn’t come as a surprise!

According to Alberta Parks, the area will be restricted to licensed guiding operators due to an “active film production” from Thursday, March 21st to the 24th, 2024.

A stunning destination beloved by hikers and bikers alike, Grotto Mountain and Creek are 12 minutes from Canmore which has been featured in a number of projects including Interstellar, The Revenant, Everwood, and more recently The Last Of Us.

From the town and Engine Bridge to nearby pathways, the cast and crew became familiar with the community when the show was shot there two years ago.

Unfortunately, it’s unclear who or what is being captured in the area, but it is worth noting that the hit HBO show is currently in town filming season 2 – according to Gabriel Luna who plays Tommy Miller in the show.

Other projects that are currently underway in Alberta? The Little Girl Who Wasn’t, Christmas in Alaska (Aka. Landing in Christmas) and Brother.

Who do you think is filming in the area, Alberta?

We guess we’ll just have to wait and see when the above shows and movies start premiering!

Grotto Creek Canyon Trail is unmistakably Albertan so it shouldn’t be hard to pick out.
