GO Transit and the UP Express will be free all night on New Year’s Eve

If you’re travelling to Toronto to ring in 2024, no need to worry about how you’ll get there!

While TTC within the city will be free all night long on New Year’s Eve, travellers coming from outside Toronto can also catch a free ride on GO Transit and the UP Express.

Metrolinx announced that GO Transit, both train and bus service will be free to all customers on New Year’s Eve starting at 7 PM and fares will not start to be charged until 8 AM on January 1st, 2024.

This initiative marks the first time in GO Transit’s history that the transit agency will run GO Train service throughout the night and into the morning of New Year’s Day.

There will be additional special trains running from Union Station as well to ensure everyone gets home safely. These include:

  • On the Barrie Line, three special trains will depart between 12:55 AM and 4:10 AM
  • On the Stouffville Line, three special trains will depart between 12:40 AM and 4:25 AM
  • On the Richmond Hill Line, one special train will head northbound at 1:10 AM

Some extra late trains will be added to the schedule too:

  • On the Lakeshore East and West GO Lines, trains will depart regularly from Union Station from 12:30 AM until 7:30 AM
  • On the Kitchener Line, trains will depart Union Station regularly from 12:35 AM until 5:35 AM
  • The Milton Line will have two additional trips heading westbound to Milton GO at 1:25 AM and 3:55 AM

According to Metrolinx, extra buses will be added for the evening which you can keep up to date on here.

UP Express service is also free after 7 PM on December 31st with the last UP Express train departing Union at 11 PM and 11:27 PM at Pearson.

Metrolinx encourages anyone who is planning on travelling on New Year’s Eve to keep up to date with possible transit scheduling changes on their website.
