Free turkeys, Toronto? “Honest Ed” Mirvish used to give away turkeys at his namesake store which ran from 1948 to 2016 as part of the season of giving and the tradition is being revived.

In honour of Thanksgiving in Canada and to mark the beginning of the Canadian premiere production of the Broadway comedy, The Thanksgiving Play, 500 FREE turkeys are being given away in Toronto.

Here’s what to know.

When & where

The 500 turkeys will be given away on Saturday, September 28th starting at 11:00 AM.

The frozen turkeys will be given away on a first-come first-served basis at the CAA Theatre (651 Yonge St).

“Thanksgiving is just around the corner, on Monday, October 14th. With groceries priced out of many people’s budgets, now more than ever giving back to our communities should be top of mind,” shares Mirvish Productions.

The Thanksgiving Play

The turkeys will be given away by the cast of The Thanksgiving Play with performances starting on Friday, September 27th, and playing until October 20th, at the CAA Theatre. It’s the first show in the 2024/25 Off-Mirvish Season!

According to Mirvish Productions, the play is about “a high school drama teacher, a history teacher, and two theatre people set out to create a new Thanksgiving school pageant that won’t ruffle any feathers.”

If you want to catch one of the shows tickets are available now and can be purchased here.
